An Introduction To Sushi And Weight Loss

Sushi is a Japanese dish and a diet comprising of sushi takes advantages of the various health benefits that are associated with it.   People who can afford to eat sushi frequently can make it as a means of a carefree weight loss or diet program.  One can lose a considerable amount of weight, depending upon the type of sushi one chooses and the amount one can eat.  To get the maximum benefits, one should include considerable portions of sushi in one’s diet because eating only sushi for several days is unlikely for any person.

Eating Sushi For Fat Loss

Sushi consists of small portions of rice that is rich in carbohydrates, pure protein and omega-3 fats. Sushi mainly contains protein; the amount of carbohydrates present in sushi is a little less than half of the amount of proteins (in grams) contained in it. Sushi also contains useful fat that helps to lower cholesterol.  This is an ideal food ratio to follow, when one considers going on a dieting.  Bodybuilders eat food having similar food component ratios, to reduce their body fat.

Sushi is not only nutritionally balanced, but it also contains many beneficial ingredients and spices that encourage weight loss like vinegar and citrus.  These acids help in weight loss during metabolism.  Sushi rice is prepared with rice vinegar and the white fishes are eaten with soy-citrus sauce, also called Ponzu. These ingredients help in the quick digestion and whatever one eats is quickly used up.  Green tea, which is always served with sushi, has many properties that help burn fat.

Keep Calories Low- Make The Right Sushi Dish

By eating sushi, you will not put on weight, but if you are particular about your calorie intake, the optimal ingredients to use while making sushi are the ones that have near zero fat.  Such types of sushi consist of tuna, shellfish, halibut and red snapper.  The oilier fishes like salmon, mackerel and toro wont make you gain weight neither would they help you lose it, but your cholesterol content will reduce considerably depending on your body’s metabolism. One can also get rid of the fat of some internal organs, which is otherwise difficult to lose.

Making Sushi At Home

Ingredients Required:

Three steaks of salted salmon.

One cucumber

One oz. (approximately 25 gm) pickled daikon radish

Two cups of uncooked rice

Mixture of 1/4 cups of sushi vinegar and rice vinegar

One tablespoon each of sugar and salt

The Preparation Process:

Cook rice in the usual manner and transfer it to a large mixing bowl.  Add salt and sugar to vinegar and mix well Add this mixture to the rice, mix it well and let it cool.  Shred the cucumber and the radish.  Grill the salmon steaks and flake them with chopsticks.  Add shredded radish, cucumber and salmon steaks to the rice and mix it well.  Mould the rice into small balls and your sushi is ready to be served.
